Sometimes, when you’re a bridesmaid, you have to take one for the team and push yourself to your limits, all for the sake of the future bride’s needs. In my case, these responsibilities have included eating deliciously unhealthy meals and taste-testing wedding cake. However, I cannot imagine anyone more worthy of these sacrifices than Erin Gunn, and I would gladly be her bridesmaid any day … despite her unreasonable demands 😛 Wedding cake-tasting, pshhh!
Erin’s sister Siobhan has been charged with making the wedding cakes for the marriages of all four siblings in the Gunn family, including her own! For Erin’s Halloween wedding, Siobhan is appropriately planning on a pumpkin cake.
She had several different recipes to try and needed our input.
I did not find any problems with cake number one, as I proceeded to eat at least half of the pan:
Since we were eating cake in the afternoon anyway, we decided to make it a full-blown tea time with these authentic Mikado cookies that Erin brought for Siobhan all the way from the Irish section of her Yonkers grocery store.
The cookies consisted of a biscuit topped with marshmallow, strawberry jam, and coconut. Can’t quite go wrong there.
As an ardent fan of teatime, I was especially taken with Siobhan’s adorable tea nooks above the sink:
And with the high quality of her loose leaf English breakfast tea that served as the perfect Mikado companion:

Yes, that’s right, wedding cake #2 made its appearance, and I polished off at least half of that one as well:

Cake number two, still warm from the oven, paired particularly well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream:

Yes, this breakfast earned me some concerned glances:
… but I’m pretty sure I was the only one rolling my eyes back in taste ecstasy while the others looked on with their judgments:-P
OK, I know I’ve asked this question before, but it’s one that deserves repeating. Best wedding cake ever?

I can’t remember any wedding cake that was awesome, maybe because all the food tend to fill me up way too much to even taste anything afterwards.

Cake and cookies…hard life indeed. My favorite wedding cake is something with chocolate. I had cheesecake at my wedding.

and english bfast tea is the best.
i don’t know what to say about best wedding cake.. i wish that i could have an ice cream cake when i get married, but i am sure it would melt 😛

cake tasting was definitely the best part of planning the wedding 🙂
we had almond, I think. I don’t even remember! but it was good. I didn’t actually have a full slice at our wedding – we were too busy talking to everyone.

Best wedding cake = the vanilla/raspberry wedding cake at my aunt’s wedding, made by our neighbor. I definitely ate half the cake.

my favorite cake ever probably was from an event at work.. honestly.. not a wedding cake! it was from BJs, with buttercream frosting and a pudding layer in it. OMG, heavenly!!!

That’s my dream, right there, tasting different wedding cakes!! I’m so jealous, and so excited to do the same thing myself. I used to cater weddings so I have had a TON of different wedding cakes, but my favorite was a simple white cake with a real fruit filling, topped with buttercream icing. It was, extasy!

i’m torn – my sister made my 3 favorites! she makes a white cake with fruit filling and chocolate buttercream frosting. everything is just moist, fresh and baked to perfection. i could eat the whole cake (and i don’t eat like sarah usually)!
