Welcome to Tales of Expansion: Baby Butternut Edition!

IMG_2362.jpg

Back in college (far longer ago than I’d like to admit), you would often find my friends and me slumped around a table after dinner, hands on our bellies, exclaiming, “Ohhh, the expansion!”

Ohhhhh, the expansion ...

I started blogging in 2008 as a way to support myself through grad school and chronicle my attempts to take part in one of my favorite activities (eating, of course) while minimizing food waste (and participating in some non-food activities as well).

I’m back at it now as I take on motherhood, the most intense masters program around. Beatrice was born in June 2014 and is taking me along for the ride on a true tale of expansion. After spending most of my adult life studying and working with new families, I get to experience the upheaval first-hand and hopefully find the time to share some of what I learn here. I’m an LCSW, an infant-parent specialist, and a Certified Lactation Counselor … yet none of that really prepared me for dealing with my own child 24/7!

This blog has followed me over several years from Brooklyn, NY to Gloucester, MA with many stops in between. We’re currently enjoying the small-city coastal life, made especially tasty by my organic farmer husband and the deluge of butternut squashes he brings our way. Join us now as we fight the uphill battle to be frugal and green while trying to grow a deliciously organic baby.

I can’t believe you have a blog Sarah! That is so cool! I love your close up food pictures. Maybe you should pursue a secondary career in food photography while saving children.
I too love to eat, and we are having a hard time cutting back on the tasty food we love. Perhaps I will find some nuggets of knowledge here in your blog.

    Love,
    Jessamyn

Your food looks amazing. Your a student and have time to cook meals like that; I am in awe. They all look great. Working really puts a time constraint on things you want to do and cooking is one of those things that takes a hit for me. Hopefully i’ll be able to give one of your recipes a shot sometime.

Sarah, I’m concerned that you have an eating disorder… the kind where you DO eat and think and write about eating! haha! Props to your diligence on this blog

    Hi Sarah,
I just ran across your blog and I love it already just after reading your intro!! I also hate seeing food go to waste so it’s hard sometimes not to eat things just because I know they are…

I love your idea for your future career!!

    Best to you!!

I love that you eat. I love that you’re not afraid of food. I love that you don’t obsess about a piece of chocolate or a slice of bread that so many bloggers seem to do.
    You rock.
