Featured food finds: Monday and Tuesday
The week started out slowly in terms of food finds, but it has quickly picked up steam. I have a hunch that today will be even more rife with contributions, so I’m getting these down before I end up with a novel!
Monday morning, Lillian offered me this biscuit to go along with my tea. I don’t know what it is about these biscuits — they’re so plain yet soooo addicting.
I also tried out one of my free Soyjoy bars from the health event last weekend:
I can see why the people at the event only let me take two of their sample bars (I still snuck a third) — they didn’t want me to know how un-amazing they were! I had asked if I could take one of each of the five flavors, and the lady turned me down. You’d think Soyjoy would want to give away as much as possible with all the soy controversy going around, but I guess she did not study marketing. Although, if she had given me one of each, I would have been able to say with confidence that every single flavor was lousy. So maybe she wanted to keep the lousy-ness a secret.
Anyway, the bar wasn’t gross or inedible by any means. It was just dry and kind of eh. I’ll eat them as I need them, but I’m not in a rush!
Tuesday morning, I went to a two-hour training downtown about deafness/hearing concerns. I had a suspicion that pastries might be present due to the breakfast timing, so I brought along a paper bag and a bunch of napkins just in case. I was right!
I packed up a bunch of bagels and assorted pastries for my freezer, and I contented myself with tea, the lone strawberry garnish, and a mini cranberry-orange muffin:
Oh, right … and a mini bran muffin, too π
Also on Tuesday, Myrna brought in a bunch of purple-pink frosted tres leches cake from a birthday party her daughter attended over the weekend. Here’s my pile!
Salty-sweet trail mix from Rosey later in the afternoon:
And a free fro-yo sample with Tate’s Bakeshop oatmeal-cranberry cookies from Butterfield Market on the way to class π
The end!
What has fallen into your lap this week?
my solution to dry bars is to crumble them into oatmeal or yogurt π
NOTHING has fallen into my lap this week but I expect a remarkable turnaround when I visit my mom this weekend to pick up my blender! Oh, I haven’t received them yet but samples of protein powder and some bars are in transit as I type!

NOTHING has fallen in my lap this week! I’m hoping for a free dessert for my birthday tonight. If not, we have cupcakes at home!

When I was in Milan on Monday morning, my host took me out for capuccino before my flight and ordered us pastries, including a custard filled croissant. Being a fan of ALL things creamy it was devoured!

I felt the same way about Soyjoy….not so good. I’m not sad that they don’t sell them in Cananda….

It’s so hard to find good bars. Luna/Cliff are one of the only reliable brands for me.
Your bran muffin looks great!

I used to be really into the SoyJoy bars, but every once in a while I get a stale one (like the one it sounds like you ate) and it really turns me off! The pink ones are the best. I actually got three free boxes about two months ago and I’ve probably had three of them….so I feel ya!
Something that’s “fallen in my lap”, well half price Cedar Point tickets! Cedar Point is an amusement park in Ohio (one of the worlds BEST!) and our scholl sells tickets at half price, score!

I’ve only heard bad things about those soyjoy bars. Funny, because I saw a television commercial for them today that made them sound delicious.
I was the one who brought goodies into work this week. So I guess I put things in the laps of my co-workers! π

I’m all over the plain biscuits. Baby Arrowroot cookies? My drug. I think I should replenish my stash actually, it’s been a while since I’ve had a hit!
I’ve heard nothing but bad things about Soy Joy. I’ve never seen them here but I’m not looking.
I wish I could say a pot of gold fell into my lap but I think the only thing that’s fallen into my lap this week is a pile of crumbs.

Uh yeah, Soy Joy = no(y) joy. I’m sorry I ever spent my money on one. Not like it really has redeeming health value anyway!
Maria cookies are SO good. I pretty much lived on them in Spain. Best way to eat them = placing one on the surface of your coffee (or milky tea as the case may be) and watching it absorb the liquid thru its little holes, then eat it a little mushy with a spoon! SO GOOD NO JOKE!!! Actually my host dad would literally take a stack of them, plop them in a huge cup of cafe con leche and eat that like cereal for breakfast.
I’m just sayin. π
